Activity at Kilauea from 2/2-2/3.
Activity a both the summit and at Thanksgiving Eve Breakout vents continued. Lava flowed out to surface flows at the eastern rift zone. Still no lava is flowing through the ocean entry.
At the summit the GPS system detected and elevated number of seismic tremors. Many earthquakes occurred that were so small that their exact location could not be determined. There were 5 earthquakes that were large enough to be located below Kilauea.
Earthquakes often occur where there is eruption and movement at volcanoes. Click here to read more about volcanic earthquakes. After reading the linked page, comment by answering this question:
Why do you think that people live near to Kilauea if earthquakes are signaling an eruption? Think about how lava flows and the activity at Kilauea. There is no right or wrong answer, just be sure to explain yourself.

Maybe because the lava flows slowly so the people can get out quickly and the earthquakes signal that there is going to be an eruption so they know that soon there will be an eruption. Maddie H
I think it is because the lava is slower and there are GPS to detect when there is going to be eruption and so the people can go to a safer place sooner than others.

I think because the lava moves slowly and people can tell when the volcano is about to erupt. Also they can clear out the area. Grace M
I think it is because the GPS can detect when there will soon be an eruption and the lava comes down the volcaneo slowly so that the people can evacuate.

I think it is because it may be a slow flowing erruption and people will know when it's safe to leave

I think it is because lava moves slow and the GPS can detect when the volcano will erupt so the people can get out of the area quicker to get to a safer area.

I think people live near Kilauea because the earthquakes give them a warning when the volcano is going to erupt and if it is a slow flowing eruption, it would give people enough time to leave.
I think it is because scientist keep the people inform of the seismic waves so the people know when violent activity occurs so they have a
good chance they will know before the volcano erupts.
I think that people who live near Kilauea are at no risk at all. They are so used to the very common earthquakes, and constant flowing lava. If they were ever to experience a eruption that would put them or their houses at risk. The technology we have today would allow them to be alerted. They would have enough of a notice that they could evacuate.

I think it is a slow flowing volcano, and so the people know when to leave.

I think the people are not leaving where they live probably because the volcano is either dormant, extinct, or they are not afraid of the damage. These people might have grown up in this one area, so they don't want to move away even though there is a volcano in striking distance from there house. Finally, these people may not have enough money to move, or they like their house because they live near a beach.
"Earthquakes related to volcanic activity may produce hazards which include ground cracks, ground deformation, and damage to manmade structures".I did not know that earthquakes that are related to volcanic activity can produce that kind of damage.
I think that people don't leave because both types of lava don't move very fast, or people can at least outrun it. And earthquakes and GPS moniters give them hints about whether or not to evacuate. (:
I think people live near Kilaeua because they Know that if the volcano erupts the lava will move slow enough for them to get out of harms way fast enough to not be harmed.

I think people live near Kilauea if volcanic earthquakes were signaling an eruption because they can leave before the volcano erupts if they want to.
I learned that earthquakes related to volcanic activity produces ground cracks ground deformation and damage to man made structures. Also I learned there are 2 types of volcano earthquakes first tectonic and second long period earthquakes.
I think it is because they have GPS to detect when the earthquake will come, and the lava flows slowly so the people have time to evacuate the area.

I think that people live near Kilauea because the lava flows slowly so the people may be able to get out of the area before the lava comes to close.
I think people live near Kilaeua or really don't mind living by Kilaeua, because of the volcanic tremor signal. Everyday people living in their homes feel slight shakes from a very small earthquake. But they don't think anything of it because it is a very regular and common thing to feel. And they know that if it serious they will be warned by the tremor signal. Which is a system that let's people know if they are in danger of an erupting volcano.
