We discussed the upcoming Structures of Flowering Plants Quiz. Here is the list of materials to study:
  • Study Guide, 1st section (vocab, and study questions)
  • Book pages 92-98
  • Powerpoint: Structures of Flowering plants
  • Flower Mini-lab (done in class today)
  • Pictures (book, powerpoint).
  • Watch video on this blog

We worked on day 3 of the Marigold lab. Plants were watered and height measurements were taken.

We continued discuss the structures of flowering plants, specifically flowers. See the screencast below to review the parts of flowers.

We also looked at a lily and dissected it during our flowering plants mini-lab. We were able to see the sepals, petals, stamens (anthers and filaments), pistil (stigmas, style, ovary) and the stem. This mini-lab will help you review for your quiz.

2. We completed day one of the marigold lab (planted, took measurements, watered plants).

3. We reviewed the "Structures of Flowering Plants" powerpoint.

In class today:

  1. QR asked "What is an angiosperm?". This should be a review for you!!
  2. I checked data table drafts and final data tables were made with lab groups. The final data table draft is due by next class.
  3. The new "Seed Plants Study Guide" was given out. This is the last study guide for the year. There will be a Flowering Plant Structures Quiz on 5/10 (A day) or 5/11 (B day). The test on the whole study guide (all 3 major topics) will be 5/16 (A day) or 5/17 (B day).
  4. We discussed the functions of the main structures of plants (roots, stems, leaves, and flowers) and began to look at the "Structures of Flowering Plants" powerpoint.
  5. In lab groups we visited the link http://www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/parts.html and played the plants parts game.
  6. We reviewed some of the Plants and Cell Division Test. It is important that you understand ALL MATERIAL on that test and we move into the new unit. It is your job to set up a time with me to review confusing concepts and tor review at home.
REVIEW!!! You must constantly be reviewing new and old material and checking the blog. Your homework is not lengthy so that you can review each day. Please see me immediately to review anything that is confusing to you.

- Experimental Design Product due next class (make sure it is posted on your kidblog)

Experimental Design Product (must be embedded in blog)- due 5/4 or 5/5



Do not forget that you must make your experimental design product public and embed it into a kid blog post. Do not leave this until the night before it is due! I've seen some nice experimental design products walking around the computer labs!

ERB Week 4/26-4/29

During ERB classes:

We worked on the experimental design product for the exam. Your experimental design product is due 5/4 (A Day) or 5/5 (B day). Be sure that you continuously check your rubric, check spelling and grammar, and check to see that your design is well organized.

You must embed your product into a kidblog post by the due date. You will have to go into glogster, prezi etc to get the embed code and then copy and paste that embed code into your kidblog post. Be sure that you are in the "html" section of the kidblog post.

We also reviewed the Plants and Cell Division Test.
